UPDATE ON ELECTION FOR PRESIDENT 

The sole nomination received for the election of the office of president of Education Austin was that of Ken Zarifis. Under the EDUCATION AUSTIN BYLAWS, ARTICLE V ELECTION OF OFFICERS Section 1. (Elections): Education Austin shall conduct elections with open nominations … for President, … beginning March 2019 and every three years thereafter…. e) Any candidate that files for President … and is unopposed shall be declared duly elected. The date set by the Education Austin Executive Board for close of nominations for president, April 8, 2019, has past.  The sole nomination received by the Education Austin Office is that of Ken Zarifis. The Education Austin Elections Committee certifies Ken Zarifis as the duly elected president. The Elections Committee report will be submitted to the Education Austin Executive Board meeting scheduled for 5:00 p.m. April 10th . 

UPDATE ON ELECTIONS FOR RECORDING SECRETARY, TREASURER, AND EXECUTIVE BOARD

The results of the Saturday, May 18, 2019 election are as follows:

Recording Secretary – Lydia (Terri) Garcia

Treasurer – Caroline Sweet

Executive Board-

Classified Representatives – Thomas Clark, Alex Dubon, R. Lynne Gage, Valencia Johnson, and Lisa Pannell

Certified Representatives – Traci Dunlap, Heather Merritt, Karen Reyes, Stacy Smith, and Carmela Valdez

At-Large Representatives – Abby Burnham, Linda Fleming, Eleanor Harris, Maura Patricia Masters, and Roscoe McCormick

 Education Austin shall have two governing components:  elected officers and an elected executive board.  Any dues-paying member in good standing who is a member of Education Austin for at least one year prior to the election may serve in these elected positions.  (Education Austin Bylaws, Article IV Governance)

Education Austin shall conduct elections with open nominations and secret ballot for President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Board positions beginning March 2018 and every three years thereafter.  

The President may be elected in March of the election year at an all-members election meeting … and by a majority of the members voting.

The President’s category of membership (classified or certified) will dictate the category of membership the Vice-President must represent.  If the president-elect is a certified member, then the Vice-President shall be a classified member and vise-versa.  

The Vice-President, Recording Secretary, and Treasurer may be elected in May of the election year at an all-members election meeting … by a majority of the members voting.  

Executive Board members may be elected in May of the election year at an all-members meeting … by a majority of members voting.

 The following election timeline has been approved by the Education Austin Executive Board at the February 13, 2019 Executive Board meeting:

TIMELINE FOR EDUCATION AUSTIN ELECTION

February 13, 2019 (Wednesday) – Executive Board ratifies election timeline and procedure for ratifying membership list.  In the event of a discrepancy between date and day of week, day of week shall apply.

February 18, 2019 (Monday) – Membership list ready for ratification.  Executive Board members use option of approving by reviewing through email or coming to Education Austin office and reviewing a copy at the office.

February 22, 2019 (Friday) – Last day for Executive Board members to ratify membership list.  Membership list approved with majority of Board members approving.  Last day for EA Board member proposing changes to receive the approval of other voting Board members.

March 8, 2019 (Friday) A letter andan email announcing the election and the nomination procedure is sent to membership list.  Nominations open for president.

April 8, 2019 (Monday) – Nominations for president close at 5:00 p.m.

April 9-11, 2019 (Tuesday – Thursday) – Education Austin staff review nominations for eligibility.

April 12, 2019 (Friday) – Nominees notified if not eligible.

April 13, 2019 (Saturday) – Education Austin All-Members Meeting, 10:00 – noon, TSTA Headquarters.

April 15, 2019 (Monday) – Email announcing the election and the nomination procedure is sent to membership list.

May 15, 2019 (Wednesday) – Nominations for vice-president, recording secretary, treasurer, and executive board members close at 5:00 p.m.

May 16, 2019 (Thursday) – Education Austin staff review nominations for eligibility.

May 17, 2019 (Friday) – Nominees notified if not eligible.

May 18, 2019 (Saturday) – Education Austin All-Members Meeting, 10:00 – noon, TSTA Headquarters

Approval of nominee list

Election of vice-president, recording secretary, treasurer, and executive board members.
