As many of you are aware, the district sent out responses to spring accommodation requests on the evening of Monday, Nov. 30. The vast majority of the accommodations were denied, despite many of the same requests being accepted previously for the fall and despite many of the requests being made for documented high-risk medical conditions.
The health and safety of ALL students, employees, and parents of Austin ISD is our union’s top priority during this time, the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our officers will be in talks with Dr. Elizalde and district officials. We will fight to protect everyone in AISD.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone who applied for an accommodation to fill out our short feedback form. We will use this data to better coordinate a district-wide response to this issue. One more thing: can you send an email to school board members urging them to encourage the superintendent to honor previously granted accommodations? Share this action with your coworkers as well.
The Board will meet next Monday, Dec. 7 for its next scheduled Board Information Session. We will send out more information about how to call in and provide testimony later this week.
It is no time for games or business as usual. Again, we will continue to fight for the health and safety of all in AISD.
